Shaughnessy Naughton kicked off a town hall tour at Dominick’s Pizza in Quakertown, where she focused on rebuilding the middle class.
“The hardworking people of Bucks and Montgomery counties deserve a representative who will always put the middle class ahead of the wealthy and special interests,” she said. ”With families struggling today to make ends meet, and Social Security and Medicare threatened by radical Republicans, it’s time for a fresh perspective and a new approach that will get things done. I am proud to have the support of so many voters.”
After the Bucks endorsement meeting, she met with nearly a hundred supporters at Cesare’s Ristorante in Bristol.
Other stops included the Club House Diner and Great American Diner in Bensalem.
“With millions of families struggling to make it into the middle class, we have radical Republicans threatening to shut the government down over funding for Planned Parenthood,” Naughton said. “That’s just wrong. I will always stand with Planned Parenthood. Women and families must always have access to the healthcare they need.”
Naughton’s campaign filed over 1,100 signatures from voters across the 8th District with the Secretary of State’s office in Harrisburg, making her the first candidate to file to run for Congress from Pennsylvania in 2016.
The deadline is Feb. 16. Candidates for Congress must file at least 1,000 nominating petitions.
“I’m thankful to all of our volunteers and supporters who made it possible for us to get on the ballot,” Naughton said. “What I am hearing from voters across this district is that they are tired of status quo and career politicians, whether in Harrisburg or Washington D.C., the system is broken. Voters want a change.”
Naughton’s town hall tours will continue with stops in Falls Township, Warminster and Bensalem.
“Our town hall tour has made it apparent that voters in Bucks and Montgomery counties are worried about Republican attacks on Planned Parenthood, the NRA’s relentless assault on gun violence prevention initiatives and the additional support we need to give to middle-class families,” she said. “We need a change of leadership in Washington, and it starts right here in the 8th District.”
Naughton has $200,000 more than Santarsiero in her campaign account.
